My tips for wearing sneakers with a dress
If you follow me on Instagram you will know that my uniform is basically a dress (my new found love) and sneakers (my all-time fave) and while this combo isn’t exactly groundbreaking, it is pretty much the foundation of my personal style.
I had a few requests to give you some tips on how to pair the two because it can be quite a step out of the comfort zone and I totally get that but trust me, if you step out that zone you will know the true meaning of comfort.
I had to think quite hard about these tips because I honestly never gave it much thought, I just loved the look and comfort of the combo and went with it so if these tips suck, I’m sorry.
Keep it casual
Casual is my thing, most days my outfit looks effortless even (and not effortless in the cool way). All of my dresses are really simple shapes and cuts and they don’t really have any special styling so they’re casual enough to go with my sneakers. Some girls can rock the hell out of a more formal look with sneakers but I am not one of them.
Go low
All of my sneakers are low cut and not too bulky so they don’t cut off my legs.
Fashion not sport
Don’t start with the sporty looking sneakers because that is a whole different ball game. You can’t go wrong with Converse All Stars, Vans or Stan Smiths.
Dress length
If you’re worried about your legs looking bulky then either go with a knee length (above or just under) or a maxi. Mid calf can be a bit tricky but not impossible.
White wins
White sneakers literally go with everything so start with those.
Experiment
Play around with what you already have and try new things, you might be surprised. If you’re really not sure then browse Pinterest or Instagram for some inspiration.
Play with proportions
Do the sneakers look too bulky for the dress? Is the dress too tight or too loose? It will make sense when you’re standing in the mirror and it will be clear if that particular dress doesn’t go with those sneakers but don’t give up there, you’ll find the perfect pair.
Kick it with confidence
Just work it. It’s a great look so fake it till you make it if you have to because it is so worth it.
I would love to see your sneaker style so tag me, share your inspiration, give me tips even.
