Just because you don’t like your body doesn’t mean I can’t like mine

I have been thinking a lot about body shaming and bullying and it is a proven fact that a lot of the time we project our own insecurities onto others – so in the case of body shaming, a personal, internal struggle with one’s own body will be directed at someone else, but that someone else is not the one with the problem. It used to upset me when I was in the presence of someone who was considerably smaller than me and they would talk about how fat they are because my first thought was always “if she thinks she’s fat, what does she think of me?” but I have…

Is my body positivity an excuse for being unhealthy?

This is a topic that is always flying around and everyone has their own opinion about whether or not body positivity actually promotes an unhealthy lifestyle because it is an “excuse” being labelled as a movement. I thought I would touch on this from my point of view and my journey (mine only). This is not to say that anyone on their own journeys, whatever they might be, is right or wrong because our journeys are personal, and that’s kind of the point of this post. It is no secret that I have lost and gained and lost and gained a lot of weight. I have tried everything, I have…

Are we brave for showing off our big bodies?

We’ve all seen it – the fat girl in her bikini on the beach, the new mom showing off her postpartum body with the fresh stretchmarks, and the curvy girl “daring” to wear a crop top that shows off her chubby tummy. More often than not our first thoughts are “she’s brave” but I want to discuss why this is not the praise we should be thinking or giving. Obviously one of the big reasons that we see showing off our bumpy bodies as bravery is because the concept of accepting and appreciating diverse bodies is still pretty new to us, even though the fat acceptance and body positive movements…

How Much does our Body Hate Hold us Back?

One of the best things about finding body acceptance and love is that I am not missing out on life and all that it has to offer anymore. Do you know how much is out there? Do you know what experiences await you? Do you know what it’s like to LIVE? And to live without the constant body hang ups? I was reminded of how much we get held back by our bodies when I told my mom that I was going for a massage and her reply was “I will never go for one because I wouldn’t want them to see my body”. This made me so incredibly sad!…

    Fitspo/diet culture versus body positivity

This is definitely going to be my most controversial post to date and I am not going to lie I am shit scared, not because I don’t believe in what I am about to say but because I don’t want to offend anyone with what I am saying and because you know, trolls. So before you read this I ask that you go easy on me because I am just a woman who has found her passion and is trying to learn everything there is to it. This post is by no means an attempt to shame anyone but rather to get a conversation going. I would also like to…
