I have always loved Instagram but before starting my new account (you can follow me here), I was a bit of a meh Instagrammer (you couldn’t even call me that actually). I didn’t have any direction, I followed so many random accounts who I had started following all those years ago who actually didn’t add much to my life or my feed. I also followed a lot of those accounts that make you green with envy because their lives, homes and hair always seem so perfect and it honestly just made feel inadequate at times.
Starting fresh at the end of last year, I knew what I wanted to do with my new account and I knew exactly the type of people and accounts I needed to follow. Those who added value and weren’t just all about a perfect life (there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, it’s just not for me and it doesn’t do my anxiety any good).
So I started Kandidly Kerry with two goals in mind, to be me, and to be real/honest and now I am so inspired, have so many ideas and I just want to grow not only my account but myself in so many different ways, creatively, I want to learn so much more and I want to go beyond my comfort zone because I believe that’s where the good stuff is.
Besides finding my place on Instagram after years of trying, I was very fussy with who I chose to follow because as mentioned I wanted more of the real, positive, relatable stuff and less of the clothing rails with a leather jacket I will never be able to afford hanging on it and a handbag that costs more than a month of food (again, nothing wrong with that, it is goals for so many people and it is seriously beautiful, just not my idea of inspiration).
I now live on Instagram because it is such a warm, inspiring, supportive, uplifting space for me. I get to see the most beautiful and confident ladies on the daily sharing their stories which I can relate to. I follow all of my favourite bloggers, and I have made some really awesome friends who have supported me so much since day one.
I wanted to share with you the local ladies who have inspired my body positivity journey. Give them all a follow because it is worth it. They are changing lives and it is such a beautiful thing to be a part of.
She has a unique sense of style, is so sweet and kind and rocks the hell out of this costume on the beach. I have followed her since day one and have been inspired by her and her journey with her body from that day.
Junette is a plus size model who is making waves locally and internationally. She has walked the run way, been in a million different campaigns and is such an inspiration because she really and truly loves her body.
Looking for the perfect summer's dress? This cotton beauty from @alc_woman is now available to shop on @spreecoza. Perfect for picnics, lazy wine farm lunches or breezy days at the beach – all essential holiday activities in Cape Town, really. (Shopping top: I recommend that you size up, as there's no stretch and you don't want the buttons pulling across your chest).
Candice’s blog and Instagram is beautiful. She also has a distinct sense of style which is pretty and feminine. She plays a big role in body positivity in South Africa.
Lauren is real and speaks her mind. She also has a great sense of humour which is something I really appreciate. She has been through it all with her body (including a near death experience due to a weight loss surgery) but she is finally at a place where she is speaking up and sharing her experiences in the hopes of helping others accept their body and love themselves.
There are so many more where this came from, locally and internationally and not only body activists so I will continue sharing the love here.
Who are your favourite accounts to follow? And do you prefer the Hollywood life type accounts? Or the real life accounts?
